Blessings to the school

His Holiness XVII Karmapa came to our Sarnath school for
the third year running. He blessed our stupa and our new garden
and agricultural project.

Lama Mary Lopen, the head of the Don Buddhist lineage, visited
us on January 27th.

Tripa Rinpoche
|
On 5th January , Gaden Tripa Rinpoche came and blessed our
school:
|
| "I will ask the blessing of
the Lord Buddha for the school, children and teachers. I say
Namaste to all of you. I learnt Hindi many years ago, but now
I become old and forget it! I will pray to God for the benefit
of all beings, that all should live together in harmony. Now
I will pray a little for the stupa, and I will ask Lord Buddha
to bless the children." |

Raj Bali Tiwai, the former UP State Government Minister for
Education, came to our school three times a week in 2001/2002
to talk to us about our culture and history: of Swami Vivekananda,
Gandhi, Buddha, Ram, Jesus, Christ, Mohammed, stories from
the Ramayana. His talks were always popular with the students.

Garden
and Agricultural Project
|
We began an organic garden project for the top two classes
of the school with two experienced organic farmers, one from
south India and one from the North. They taught us ways of
farming without the use of chemical fertilisers and harmful
pesticides. We made a vermiculture pit, with worms to create
compost from our food waste, which we then used on our fields
|

Students have a good psychological results from BHU
|
|
Psychological tests taken June 2002 by psychologist Professor Sharma
from Benaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, UP, gave very favourable
results for Alice Project students, compared to other schools around.
Forty two students in Class V aged between 10-13 were tested on
four different levels, concentration, memory, moral values and socialisation.
Results at Alice Project school were compared to those of a local
Government school.

Jaku's art classes
James
Jaku came and taught teachers and students very practical and very
exciting art - he got everyone drawing, even (and especially) our
maths teacher. He taught us cartoons and mandala's - and we liked
best mandala's from nature.

Pat came and taught philosophy to the
teachers and meditation to the students

America, came
for a month and taught the top classes Math and Science. He taught
us how engines worked.
Pat, from
America, came and taught the teachers Philosophy and the students
she mindfulness and meditation.
Mau, (Maurits
Bartstra) from Utrecht, Netherlands, came and taught us computers
and English.
Sarah, from
Cananda, taught her favourite Class V English.
Rachel, from
England, came and taught us about our environment.

America, came and taught students meditation.

from America, came and taught us some theatre.

Everyone went,
of course. Vinod brought a new jacket, Adylia had a silk suit made
- everyone dressed up. Awanish looked like a prince and his bride
