DISCORSO DI BENVENUTO A SUA SANTITÀ IL XIV DALAI LAMA

A nome del corpo insegnante e di tutti gli studenti diamo il benvenuto a Sua Santità il Dalai Lama alla scuola Universal Education - Alice Project School.

Era il dicembre 1999 quando Sua Santità venne per la prima volta a benedire la scuola e lo stupa che era in costruzione.

Il ricordo del vostro sorriso luminoso e della vostra gentilezza è rimasto impresso nella mente degli studenti.

In occasione della sua precedente visita avevamo già spiegato a Sua Santità che questa non èuna scuola comune, infatti èun istituto di ricerca. La nostra ricerca, sostenuta entusiasticamente dalla Sampurananand Sanskrik University di Varanasi, è volta a provare scientificamente e praticamente che non ci può essere altra alternativa ad una educazione fondata sui valori umani.

Crediamo che il mondo oggi non abbia altra possibilità se non quella di cambiare i paradigmi educativi per poter risolvere la crisi psicologica, sociale e morale che le giovani (come anche le vecchie) generazioni stanno sperimentando.

Il sistema educativo di molti paesi, sia occidentali che orientali, sembra incapace di invertire la tendenza negativa che mostra un allarmante incremento della sofferenza.

Parallelamente, anche la Terra sta ugualmente soffrendo. Per esempio, i contadini nostri vicini da ben due anni non riescono

a far crescere il riso a causa della scarsità d’acqua.

Quasi tutti i fiumi e i laghi sono prosciugati. Anche molti pozzi sono prosciugati…e la stagione più calda (l’estate) non è ancora arrivata.

È tempo di emergenza! Crediamo che per la crisi ambientale e psicologica che stiamo sperimentando nella natura abbiamo bisogno di una pedagogia dell’ emergenza  fondata sui valori del dharma.

Approfondiamo un poco questo concetto di pedagogia dell’emergenza e le sue basi filosofiche.

Ricordo le parole di uno sciamano che incontrai l’anno scorso in Colombia: “ La Madre Terra è malata perchè la nostra mente è malata!”

Una volta i nostri studenti, dopo aver partecipato ad una manifestazione contro l’inquinamento del Gange, chiesero ad un Sadhu: “Qual’è la vostra opinione su questo problema?”

Il sadhu rispose: “Penso che, prima di tutto, dovremmo pulire l’inquinamento della nostra mente!”

L’assunto della metodologia di Alice Project è che la sofferenza è causata da una percezione sbagliata della realtà, che è chiamata semplicemente ignoranza.

Questa ignoranza èla causa dell’inquinamento mentale.

Proponiamo ai nostri studenti di riflettere su ciòche chiamiano la catena cognitiva , che generalmente comincia con il pensiero (seguito da immagini, idee ed emozioni, reazioni fisiche, parole, motivazioni, decisioni, reazioni), e di analizzare come questa sia la causa delle azioni che causano sofferenza a se stessi e agli altri.

Mentre il Direttore della scuola sta parlando, il Dalai Lama segue attentamente il discorso leggendo la copia che gli era stata consegnata all’inizio della cerimonia.

La metodologia di Alice mira a dimostrare scientificamente che i nostri pensieri sono usualmente negativi, inappropriati o sbagliati, a causa di una percezione errata della realtà (la visione dualistica che caratterizza i vecchi paradigmi educativi). Noi  cerchiamo di rendere gli studenti  consapevoli del fatto che la percezione errata crea una grande confusione in tutte le loro catene cognitive.

Da pensieri sbagliati o inappropriati derivano idee sbagliate, reazioni fisiche dolorose, parole sgarbate, motivazioni sbagliate, decisioni sbagliate,  reazioni sbagliate, azioni sbagliate, e risultati negativi per se stessi e per gli altri: sofferenza e violenza.

Quindi, la nostra proposta: dopo avere analizzato e compreso l’ignoranza, incoraggiamo gli studenti ad essere scettici riguardo la visione del mondo  che viene acquisita seguendo pensieri sbagliati. Chiamiamo questo processo destrutturazione cognitiva.

Dopo aver demolito la conoscenza costruita su una percezione sbagliata della realtà -che causa divisioni e conflitti- incoraggiamo gli studenti a ricostruire una nuova visione di se stessi e del mondo, secondo un nuovo paradigma educativo fondato su concetti di interdipendenza, causa ed effetto, unità. Chiamiamo questo processo: ricostruzione cognitiva.

Da più di 25 anni Alice Project sta cercando di provare che, per poter pacificare la mente degli studenti, è necessario integrare la percezione dell’unità con una conoscenza pragmatica e convenzionale: fisica e metafisica, religione e scienza, meditazione e ottenimenti accademici, buon cuore e buoni voti.

I risultati positivi di questa integrazione sono stati provati, senza alcun dubbio, dalle ricerche della neuroscienza.

Dalla nostra parte, dopo tanti anni di ricerca, possiamo asserire che l’educazione spirituale ha un impatto straordinario sull’intelligenza, comportamento degli studenti, risultati accademici (sono stati promossi il 100% degli studenti della X e XII classe) disciplina, memoria, attenzione, socializzazione, responsabilità individuale e sociale. Ovviamente questo non è un Paradiso, anche noi dobbiamo affrontare

problemi causati dalle tendenze innate della mente degli studenti e, qualche volta, dalle pressioni negative della cultura e delle tradizioni dei villaggi; però tutti avvertono che qui c’è una “differenza”.

Come abbiamo ottenuto questa “differenza” ed insieme realizzato un curriculum di studi completo e olistico che include, come detto precedentemente, le discipline tradizionali e Dharma?

Il segreto è nei santi e saggi Maestri: Guru come Lama Zopa Rinpoce, Lama Yesce, Ribur Rinpoce (che ci ha tristemente lasciato il mese scorso). Qui devo ricordare che Ribur Rinpoce, a seguito del consiglio di Sua Santità di dedicare la mia vita all’educazione, ha sostenuto l’Alice Project con tutto il suo cuore.

All’inizio, siamo stati fortunatissimi, non solo perchè abbiamo trovato il prezioso tesoro della cultura indiana, ma anche perchè abbiamo incontrato un monaco anziano umile e compassionevole, conosciuto come Gose Lama, Guru-ji.

Questo semplice monaco, che non aveva titoli accademici, è stato la nostra fonte di   ispirazione e guida. Non conosceva la filosofia, ma parlava con il cuore. Questa è la ragione per cui tutti, sia gli studenti giovani che quelli anziani, lo capivano e lo amavano. Guru-ji ha benedetto la prima pietra di ognuna delle nostre classi. Con le sue divinazioni e i suoi consigli ha salvato la vita di alcuni dei nostri studenti e la vita del Alice Project stesso.

In qualche modo, è stato un pioniere di Alice Project, perchè ha insegnato i valori di unità e armonia fra le religioni, le persone e le caste… lui ha sempre enfatizzato la necessità di costruire un ponte fra buddismo ed induismo. Aveva un grande rispetto per il lavoro sociale dei cristiani e ci ha incoraggiato ad imitarli.

Alice Project non avrebbe mai raggiunto la sua maturità senza Guru-ji. Sempre grazie a lui ora abbiamo tre scuole (due a Sarnath e una a Bodhgaya), con più di 800 studenti, dall’asilo alla scuola superiore. (Ora siamo affiliati alla Sampurananand Sanskrit University di Varanasi).

Guru-ji ci ha anche incoraggiato ad aiutare gli studenti Chakma,  una minoranza  buddista (Theravada) perseguitata in Bangladesh, originaria dell’ Arunachal Pradesh, ora profughi in India. Al momento vi sono 70 studenti, tra gli otto e i vent’anni, che studiano gratuitamente presso i nostri collegi a Bodhgaya e a Sarnath.

Guru-ji ha sostenuto anche altre attività sociali come il sostegno dell’infanzia costretta al lavoro minorile, l’apprendistato per le donne, le scuole serali per adulti, il teatro di strada per rendere consapevoli le persone dei villaggi  sulle conseguenze della violenza sulle donne, dell’alcoolismo e dell’ analfabetismo. Queste ed altre attività sono state fatte anche per i  bambini del carcere minorile.

Ci ha incoraggiato a scrivere libri e storie sull’educazione, ad essere sempre ottimisti, e ha ispirato l’insegnamento di un corso di lingua tibetana facoltativo. Ora due studenti sono a Dharamsala per diventare traduttori di lingua tibetana. 

Per tutte queste ragioni tutti noi sentiamo tantissimo la sua mancanza. Pertanto abbiamo deciso di dedicare il nostro Degree College (Università) alla sua memoria, in modo che sia sempre con noi.

 Speriamo e preghiamo che Guru-ji soddisfi la promessa che ci fatto prima di lasciarci: “Rinascerò nella vostra scuola!”

Fortunatamente Guru-ji non era solo. Siamo stati molto fortunati di trovare un altro Guru, che al momento ci sta guidando attraverso le difficoltà della nostra missione:  Lama   Monlam, che ha molte delle qualità di Gose Lama: umiltà e buon cuore.

Con le benedizioni e l’aiuto di questo monaco incredibilmente energico, nonostante la venerabile età di quasi ottant’anni, stiamo portando avanti la nostra ricerca educativa e vari progetti sia sociali che di Dharma, coadiuvati dagli studenti anziani.

I  progetti di Dharma riguardano la costruzione di Stupa, il Tempio di Ganesh con la recitazione quotidiana del manta Gaytri, e della recitazione ininterrotta del mantra di Tara. La costruzione del Tempio di Tara  comincerà una volta raccolti i fondi necessari alla sua costruzione.  

Riguardo al lavoro sociale, ho il piacere di informare che i nostri studenti residenti sono sempre pronti ogni qualvolta ci sia un’emergenza. Questo è il  modello di studenti che Alice Project desidera preparare per il futuro di questa nazione: studenti che dovranno diventare insegnanti pioneristici, assistenti  e operatori sociali capaci di operare secondo i principi di un nuovo sistema  educativo.

Un ultimo pensiero: per dodici anni Luigina (co-fondatrice delle scuole) e io abbiamo lavorato molto duramente per mettere in pratica la filosofia e la metdologia di Universal Education- Alice Project, superando fraintedimenti, ostacoli, conflitti e difficoltà di tutti i tipi. La visita di Sua Santità è per noi il miglior premio per il nostro impegno. Ora non ci sentiamo più soli. Siamo sicuri che le benedizioni di Sua Santità saranno sempre con noi ad aiutarci a soddisfare i nostri sogni: un sogno dove i bambini di tutto il mondo sorridono e ai quali viene insegnato il sentiero che porta al cuore, dove ci sono gentilezza e amore puro.

On behalf of our staff and students we heartily welcome Your Holiness to Universal Education-Alice Project school.

It was December 1999 when Your Holiness last came to bless the school and the Stupa, which was under construction at the time.

The imprint left by Your radiant smile and kindness in our students’ mind has never faded. 

As we mentioned to your Holiness during your previous visit, this is not a common school. It’s a research Institution. With the cooperation and the enthusiastic support of Sampurananand Sanskrit University – Benares, our research is dedicated to prove scientifically and practically that there is no alternative to a values oriented education.

We believe that the world today has no option  other than to change the educational paradigm in order to solve the psychological, social and moral crisis of the new (and old, as well) generations.

The educational system of many western and eastern countries seems unable to reverse the negative trend which shows an alarming increase in mental suffering.

In a parallel way, the Earth is suffering as well. For instance, farmers around this school have not been able to grow rice for two years now due to the scarcity of water.

Almost all the rivers and ponds are dry. Many wells have also gone dry…, and the worse season (the summer) has not come yet!

It is a time of emergency! We believe that for environmental or psychological crisis of the nature we are experiencing, we need an emergency pedagogy based on the values of dharma.

Let’s further elaborate a little bit on this concept of emergency pedagogy and its philosophical basis.

I remember the words of a shaman who I met last year in Colombia: “Mother Earth is sick because our mind is sick!”

Once our students, after a demonstration against Gangàs pollution, asked a Saddhu: “What is your opinion on this problem?”

The Saddhu replied: “Well, I think that, first; we should clean the pollution of our mind!”

The assumption of Alice Project methodology is that suffering is caused by a wrong perception of the reality, which is simply called ignorance. This ignorance is the cause of mind’s pollution.

We propose that our student consider what we call the cognitive chain, which usually starts with a thought followed by images, ideas and emotions, physical reactions, language, motivation, decision, re-action – result of action for oneself and others.

  Alice methodology is aimed to scientifically demonstrate that usually our thoughts are negative, inappropriate or wrong, due to a wrong perception of reality (dualistic vision which characterizes the old educational paradigm). We try to make our students aware that a wrong perception creates a huge mess in all their cognitive chains.

From wrong or inappropriate thoughts, come wrong ideas, painful physical reactions, harsh words, wrong motivation, wrong decisions, wrong reactions, wrong actions, and negative results for oneself and others: suffering and violence.

Hence, our proposal: after analyzing and understanding ignorance, we encourage the students to be skeptical about the vision of the world we   acquired following the wrong thoughts. We call this process: cognitive deconstruction.

After demolishing the knowledge built on a wrong perception of the reality – which causes divisions and conflicts - we encourage the students to re-build a new vision of themselves and the world, according to a new educational paradigm based on concepts of interdependence, cause and effect, unity. We call this process: cognitive reframing.

For more than 25 years Alice Project is trying to prove that, in order to pacify the students’ mind, is necessary to integrate the perspective of unity with pragmatic and conventional knowledge: physics and metaphysics, religion and science, meditation and academic achievement, good heart and good marks.

 The positive results of this integration have now been proved without any doubt by researcher in neuroscience.

From our side, after so many years of research, we can state that spiritual education has an astonishing positive impact on intelligence, students’ behavior, academic achievement (100 per cent of the students of class X and XII graduated) discipline, memory, attention, socialization, individual and social responsibility. Of course, this is not a Heaven, we too are facing problems due to the innate tendencies in the minds of the students and, sometimes, the negative pressure of the village culture and traditions, but everybody can feel that there is “a difference” here.

How did we achieve this difference as well as proposing an integral and holistic curriculum which includes, as mentioned before, traditional disciplines and dharma? 

The secret lies in the Wise and holy Teacher. Guru like Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Lama Yeshe, Ribur Rinpoche (who sadly passed away last month). I have to mention that Ribur Rinpoche, after Your Holiness suggested me to dedicate my life to education, supported Alice Project with all his heart.

At the beginning, we were extremely lucky not only because we found the treasure of Indian culture but also because we came across an old, humble and compassionate monk, known as Gose Lama, Guru-ji.

This simple monk, having no academic degrees, was our source of inspiration and guide. He did not know philosophy, but he spoke through his heart. That is the reason why everybody – junior and senior students – were able to understand him and love him. Guru-ji blessed the foundation stones of all our classrooms. With his divinations and his advice he saved the life of some of our students and the life of Alice Project itself. 

In some way, He was a pioneer of Alice Project because he preached the value of unity and harmony among religions, people, castes… He always emphasized the urgency to erect a bridge between Buddhism and Hinduism. He had incredible respect for the social work of Christians and encouraged us to imitate them. 

Alice Project would never have reached its maturity had it not been for Guru-ji. It’s also thank to him that we now have three schools (two in Sarnath) and one in Bodhgaya, with more than 800 students, from kindergarten to degree college (we are now affiliated to Sampurananand Sanskrit University of Benares).

It was Guru ji who, also, encouraged us to help the chakma students, from Arunachal Pradesh, a persecuted religious minority of Theravada Buddhist refugees from Bagladesh.

Presently we are helping 70 students, aged 8 to 20 years old, who are studying – free of cost – in our hostels in Bodhgaya and Sarnath.

Again, Guru-ji supported other social activities for child laborers, vocational training for women, literacy project for adults, a street theater to educate the villagers about violence to women, alcoholism and illiteracy. These and other activities have been designed also for children in the Juvenile Home. 

He pushed us into writing books and stories on education, always thinking positive and blessed the idea of a not compulsory Tibetan class for our students. Now two of these students are studying in Daramsala to become Tibetan translators.

For all these reasons we all miss him terribly. We have, therefore, decided to dedicate our Degree College to his memory so that he may always be with us. We hope and pray that Guru-ji fulfills the promise he made before passing away: “I will take rebirth in your school!”

Fortunately, Guru-ji was not alone. We have been lucky enough to find another Guru, who is currently guiding us through the difficulties of our mission: Monlam Lama, who has many of the qualities of Gose Lama: humility and good heart.

With the blessing and help of this incredibly energetic monk, in spite of his age (he is almost 80 years old), we are running our educational research and several social and dharma project, in collaboration with our senior students.

I would also like to point out that with respect to the dharma project, there are the construction of Stupas, Ganesh’s Temple and Gyatri mantra recitation every day.

There is also the planned project of non-stop Tara recitation. This will commence once we get the funds to build a Tara Temple. 

About social work, I’d like to mention the fact that our resident students are always in the front whenever an emergency arises. This is the kind of students that Alice Project wants to prepare for the future of this Country: the pioneer teachers, counselors and social workers of the new educational paradigm.

A final thought: for twelve years Luigina (the co-founder of the schools) and I worked very hard to implement Universal Education Alice Project’s philosophy and methodology overcoming misunderstanding, obstacles, conflicts, and difficulties of all kind.

Your Holiness’ visit is the best reward for our struggle. Now, we do not feel alone any more. We are sure that Your Holiness’s blessing will be always with us helping us to fulfil our dream: a dream where the children of all the world smile and are taught the path which leads to the heart, wherever there is kindness and pure love.

Il vostro direttore mi ha letto la sua relazione. Secondo il suo resoconto penso che abbiate fatto veramente un grande progresso. Questo è il risultato dell'impegno del direttore, degli insegnanti, dello staff (dei collaboratori) e degli studenti: e anche del grande contributo che viene dai benefattori. Per questo mi congratulo con tutte le persone che sono collegate a questo istituto.

In generale l'educazione è la causa principale dello sviluppo nella società umana.In ogni luogo, sia in oriente che in occidente, tutti ritengono che l'educazione sia molto importante per lo sviluppo della società. È diverso nel caso in cui qualcuno non vada a scuola a causa di mancanza di risorse o nel caso di pochi che posseggano le condizioni favorevoli. In Europa in passato le istituzioni religiose si presero la responsabilità dell'educazione morale. La maggior parte delle istituzioni religiose si assunsero la responsabilità dell'educazione morale. Dall'altro lato le istituzioni moderne si sono assunte la responsabilità  per lo sviluppo delle facolta intellettuali. Penso che questo sia ciò che si verificò in passato.

In india c'è una relazione speciale fra studente ed insegnante. In questo modo dalla parte dell'insegnante non c'è solo la responsabilità di dare delle istruzioni ma anche di prendersi cura dello studente affinchè sviluppi un'educazione morale. Penso che ci fosse questo tipo di relazione fra insegnante e studente. Ora i tempi sono cambiati e gradualmente anche in India vengono adottati i sistemi educativi europei. A causa di ciò lo sviluppo delle abilità umane è aumentato, ma dall'altro lato c'è un declino (una degenerazione) nella moralità. Quando vado in occidente le persone con le quali parlo dei problemi della società, e particolarmente dei maggiori problemi che ci sono nelle generazioni più giovani, mi dicono che nel sistema educativo che seguono ci sono delle lacune. Ora ritengono che l'educazione morale sia importante ed essenziale. Storicamente l'India ha una tradizione culturale molto ricca. Ha una lunga storia ed è un paese molto vasto. Però in molti paesi mancano le condizioni per quanto riguarda sia l'educazione che l'economia. In una tale situazione qui è stata fondata questa scuola per le persone locali. Non solo è stata fondata, ma anche fornisce un tipo di educazione basata su sistemi educativi moderni però con una speciale attenzione verso gli aspetti in cui ci sono lacune nell'educazione morale. E questo è veramente apprezzabile. Probabilmente ci sono difficoltà a cambiare il curriculum di studi in un ambiente in cui è già stato collaudato nel tempo, ma poichè questa scuola è nuova, penso non ci siano difficoltà a cambiare, aggiungendo o togliendo da vari curriculum. Se riflettiamo bene si può dire che questo sia un progetto pilota. Questo è un nuovo sistema educativo che può svolgere le funzione di modello per altri. Quindi è molto importante. Per questo vi siete impegnati con grande sforzo fino ad oggi avendo creato un orario di lavoro quotidiano sistematico e vi siete impegnati con grande energia. Nell'impartire l'educazione avete sempre avuto delle visioni molto vaste e anche in futuro dovete impegnarvi al fine di "produrre" degli esseri umani sempre più abili e moralmente educati. Se potete lavorare con grande impegno facendo "brainstorming" per questo scopo - sarebbe veramente grandioso. Non ho grandi cose da dire su questo argomento, però posso incoraggiare il vostro entusiasmo e fare una donazione per la vostra scuola. Vi sosterrò e farò qualsiasi cosa sia nelle mie capacità per aiutarvi nei vostri bisogni. Sarò sempre pronto per questo e definitivamente vi sosterrò.

Voi prendete esempi dalle religioni, però credo che seguiate un tipo di insegnamento secolare senza avere un indirizzo verso un credo specifico. Questo va molto bene. Parlo spesso di un'etica secolare e la incoraggio. Prendere vari insegnamenti dalle diverse fedi senza guidare a seguirne una in modo specifico penso che sia il modo giusto di procedere.

In futuro poi dovremo confrontare gli studenti di Ghesce Nawang Samten (dell'Università di studi superiori tibetani) e gli studenti della scuola di Lama Ciampa Monlam e vedere chi fra di loro sarà più disciplinato.

Ora mi rivolgo brevemente agli studenti. C'è un detto di un erudito tibetano che dice: "Al tempo degli studi si deve soffrire." Non è facile quando si deve studiare. Ci sono difficoltà. È vero. Per esempio quando studiavo pensavo sempre alle vacanze e a come fare per evitare di studiare. Quando ero giovane non sapevo quale importanza avesse lo studio. Forse anche voi avete i miei stessi sentimenti. Per questo si dice che "Si soffre quando si deve studiare." Pertanto non dovete pensare troppo alle piccole gioie quotidiane come le vacanze ecc., ma dovete pensare al futuro, a lungo termine. Dovete studiare duramente e mettere tutto il vostro impegno. Non dovete essere pigri. Vi sprono a studiare duramente.

Come ho detto prima, la popolazione mondiale è più di 6 miliardi di persone e tutte hanno gli stessi diritti. Abbiamo tutti gli stessi diritti di vivere felicemente e in pace. Però non è sufficiente avere gli stessi diritti, dobbiamo lavorare per ottenerli. È importante che uno abbia la capacità di ottenere questi diritti. E la condizione principale per ottenerli è proprio l'educazione. Per questo vi incoraggio a studiare duramente /con impegno.

Poichè mi avete invitato nella vostra scuola sono stato contento di venire. Propongo che domani o dopo facciate festa, a tal fine vi offro 10.000 rupie per fare un pranzo speciale e in futuro farò una donazione per la scuola.

Quando farete il pranzo mi raccomando di dare una doppia porzione a Lama Ciampa Monlam perchè è veramente grande.

Your Principal had just read his report. According to his report I think that you made great progress. This is all due to the effort of the Principal, teachers, staff and the students. It is also due to the great contribution of the sponsors. Therefore, I congratulate all the people who are related to this institute. In general education is the main cause of the development within the human society. Therefore, in all places, whether it is East or West, all consider education very important for the development of the society. It is different if some don't go to school due to the lack of facility or few have very good facility. In early days in Europe religious institution took the responsibility of moral education. As most of these are religious institution, they took the responsibility of moral education. And on the other hand modern institutions took the responsibility for the development of brain skill. I think, this is how in the early days. In India there is a special relation between the teacher and the student. In this way not only giving education but also taking care of building morality within the student. So, I think such relation was going on between them. Now time has changed and gradually the European education system is adopted in India. Due to this the development of human skill has increased, but on the other hand there is a decline in the morality. When I go to west the people with whom I discuss about the problems within the younger generations say that there is some short coming in the education system that they are following. Now they see moral education as important and essential. Historically India has a very rich cultural tradition. It has very long history and is a large country. However, in many places there is still shortage of facility in terms of education and economy. Under such situation, here a school is set up for the local people. Not just established it, but also giving education under modern education system and giving special attention toward the areas where there is shortcoming on moral education. It is a matter of great appreciation. May be you face difficulties to change curriculum in a set up which exist long back. Since this school is very new, so I feel that there may be no difficult to in changing, adding and withdrawing curriculums. If we think from other hand, this is something like a pilot project. This is something a new system which is like a role model for others. Therefore, it is very important. For this you have put up your effort till today, and you have performed systematic daily routine of work and put up all your effort. You have also continuously pondered upon the larger perspective of imparting education.  In the future also you should put your effort to produce more skillful and morally educated human beings. If you could work with great effort by brainstorming for such purpose - would be very great. I have no such great things to say on this subject, but I will be able to enhance your enthusiasm and donate a little bit for your school. I will support you, and I will do whatever be able to do to support your needs. I am very ready for this and I will definitely support you.

You are taking lessons from the religion, but I think that you are following secular without going after one faith. This is also very good. I always push and speak on secular ethic. Taking various teaching from different faith without guiding to follow just a specific one. I think this will be good one. Now we should compare between the students of ven. Ngawang Samten in Tibetan Institute are more disciplined or students of Monlam Lama School are more disciplined. I shell see this in the future.

Now I want to say few words to the students. A Tibetan Scholar says "One will have to suffer at the time of study." It is not easy during the time of study. There are difficulties. It is right. For example, when I was studying I always think for vacation, and how to skip studying. When I was young, I also don't know the importance of study. May be you are also feeling the same. So, it is said "One will suffer at the time of study." Therefore, you should not think for this daily small happiness such as holidays etc., but have to think for long term future. You should study hard and put your effort. You should not go after laziness. I appeal you to study hard. As I said earlier, the human population on this earth is more then 6 billion and they have equal right. We all have equal right to live happily and peacefully. It is not enough to have equal right, but we have to work to achieve these rights. It is important that one should be able to achieve that right. The main condition to achieve it is the education. Therefore, I appeal you to study hard.

As you have asked me to come to your school, I happily come here. I urge for a holiday tomorrow or after and I offer this to you all to have lunch. I have here 10.000 (ten thousand) for lunch and I will donate for the school fund in the future. When you go for picnic and have food, please offer Monlam Lama double portion. He is really very big.
